Hannah's First Birthday!

To celebrate Hannah's first birthday, Danny and Jenn invited me to join them for their backyard festivities and capture their daughter's special day in pictures. Hannah wore a dainty white dress, but that didn't stop her from playing in her sandbox, racing around on the grass, or gobbling up her chocolate birthday cupcakes. After all, what fun is it to be a kid if you can't make a little messy once in a while, especially on your birthday? It'll all come out in the wash anyhow -- or in Photoshop!

Danny and Jenn, thanks again for letting me share the special day with you, and for your hospitality. And Hannah, thanks for giving me a few cupcakes to take home for my own. I can see why you liked them. Yum!

Concord, MA

While I finish polishing up a few shots from a baby birthday portrait session, here's a selection of images taken on a trip to Massachusetts, overlooking a pond in the historic town of   Concord .   Concord is probably best known for being integral to the kickoff of the American Revolutionary War, but it was also home to some of America's greatest literary talents, such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louisa May Alcott, and Henry David Thoreau.

Save for a few cackling geese and the occasional croak of bullfrogs, the pond itself was quite tranquil. The contrast of the bright blue sky to the green lilly pads was striking, and a wooden shack bordering the water's edge imparted the surroundings with an almost timeless quality.

Let There Be Light, In the Dark

While I'm prepping for some upcoming shoots and finishing some post-processing on others, I thought I would post a few shots to start September off. These were photographed some time back, on 35mm film actually, as long night time exposures. The location was a collection of greenhouses and storage sheds, and the different combinations of artificial light (combined with the long exposures) created some really interesting color. No Photoshop magic here -- a pretty cool in-camera effect.

Laurel and Amelia: Cousinly Love

Cousins Laurel and Amelia shared the spotlight on this shoot, and everyone had a fun day just playing in the quiet of the backyard. Laurel is a future movie star, a natural -- running around all smiles and striking poses for the camera. She loved goofing around with the Croquet mallets laying in the grass -- I think at one point, she was able to hold four or five at once!

Baby Amelia has the most amazing dimples and wasn't at all shy flashing her big smile at the camera. I have to wonder what these little babies are thinking when they see me snapping away up close. In fact, at one point, Amelia reached right out to me, her tiny fingers open wide, as if to borrow the camera. Ha-Ha. I think we have another future photographer! Thanks for the fun day everyone!
