Here's a little something to keep the blog a-hoppin' while I'm busy editing away on a really fun birthday event. In between portrait sessions, I'll often pick up a commercial assignment or two -- this one for Ceramics To Go, a cool paint-it-yourself ceramics studio located in Manhattan Beach. The company is expanding fast, and their marketing director was in need of an image of the store's interior for a 87"x80" display, to be used at their vendor booth during the upcoming West Coast Franchise Expo in downtown LA.
The trick was maintaining resolution at that size, as well as fitting the panoramic expanse of their store into the squarish proportions of the display. A fish eye lens would add too much distortion to the merchandise, so instead I shot about 10 separate images and stitched them together into this panorama:
Then, from the middle, I cropped into the 87"x80" select for the display:
Presto! You're all fascinated, I can tell -- Ha! But hey, if I can't share with my readers, then who? Stayed tuned for the next event, coming soon! For now, I'm back to editing and trying not to eat all of tomorrow's Halloween candy.
Had I been told at the start of this wedding day that the evening's celebrations would conclude with Tom and his groomsmen donning fake moustachios and belting out a karaoke mime of "Casino Royale" (by Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass), I would have believed you... because that's just the type of guy Tom is -- good-natured, energized on life, and one hell of an awesome plastic trumpet player.
Actually, this was my first opportunity to meet Tom, but his personality is immediate and bright, and I know I'm not alone when I say he's nothing short of the perfect counterpart to Michelle. I've had the pleasure of knowing Michelle for a while now, and if we could just bottle up an ounce of her joyous laughter and share it the world over, I have no doubt we'd all be smiling just a little bit more often. I know Tom is, and together, these two will be fierce!
Guests were treated to a beautiful ceremony on the sands of Oceanside, and as the sun slipped beneath the horizon, we retreated to the open air rooftop of their rented beach house, dancing the night away with the endless reach of dark ocean behind us.
Michelle and Tom, I'm truly delighted you've found each other, and so honored to have been chosen to document your special day. Laugh on, guys.
