Suit Up

Granted, this image isn't as flashy as my usual shares, but this is my first client sans head, arms & legs, and I figured that, in and of itself, made it reasonably post-worthy. I think the session went pretty well, the herringbone suit and I shared some killer chemistry, and I'm really looking forward to all of his promised referrals. Socks, shoes, ties... bring it on.

The Andover Shop is a premium men's boutique located in (you guessed it!) Andover, Massachusetts, and the shop was in need of some photography of a sports coat slated for their 2008-2009 inventory. It was a fun assignment and, of course, a rewarding bonus to see the image debut in their new catalogue -- these are some classy Bostonian threads!

Sieze The Day - Return To Middlesex School

"O Captain! My Captain!" Robin Williams, quoting Walt Whitman in Dead Poets Society. That's the classic film that comes to mind when I'm shooting images at the beautiful Middlesex private school in Concord, MA. It's an inspiring place where you just want to grab an old book, curl up in an ivy-covered corner, and read.

I first had the pleasure of photographing the campus for their publications in the summer of 2007, and would like to thank both David and the school for inviting me back once again this year for a second round.

It was an exciting challenge to canvas the grounds once more, to discover new angles and explore an approach that would read unique from our first pass. Having covered the school from a more conventional perspective the first time around, this session freed us to experiment with the point-of-view, to get in closer on the nooks and crannies, and broaden the portfolio we've been building upon.

The new printed books look fantastic, and it's always a thrill to take pictures in what I will forever consider to be my first home, Boston. Carpe Diem!

Ceramics To Go

Here's a little something to keep the blog a-hoppin' while I'm busy editing away on a really fun birthday event. In between portrait sessions, I'll often pick up a commercial assignment or two -- this one for Ceramics To Go, a cool paint-it-yourself ceramics studio located in Manhattan Beach. The company is expanding fast, and their marketing director was in need of an image of the store's interior for a 87"x80" display, to be used at their vendor booth during the upcoming West Coast Franchise Expo in downtown LA.

The trick was maintaining resolution at that size, as well as fitting the panoramic expanse of their store into the squarish proportions of the display. A fish eye lens would add too much distortion to the merchandise, so instead I shot about 10 separate images and stitched them together into this panorama:

Then, from the middle, I cropped into the 87"x80" select for the display:

Presto! You're all fascinated, I can tell -- Ha! But hey, if I can't share with my readers, then who? Stayed tuned for the next event, coming soon! For now, I'm back to editing and trying not to eat all of tomorrow's Halloween candy.
