Clients always like to know who they are doing business with. They desire to put a face with a .com. It instills confidence in the client, and demonstrates that you, as a business owner, are not afraid to step out and stand behind your brand.
Red Triangle Inc. recently embraced this thinking and commissioned portraits of themselves for their evolving business. This particular session was staged at one of their residences, and we worked to be creative with the residential surroundings, which were actually quite vibrant and full of color. I always like to include an interesting background and experiment with posing, something that will bring out personality and put a client at ease. During the shoot, we talked a lot about what makes a pleasing photograph, and how difficult it can be to sometimes let your guard down and be yourself in front of the camera. As always, the best pictures are snapped when the client does what feels natural to them -- laugh, smile, be serious -- be you!
Red Triangle specializes in problem solving and consultation. They are also developing some viable self-publishing solutions for writers looking to realize their work in print. I'd like to thank them for the session and their good nature, as well as our mutual friend, Barbara, for introducing us and recommending me for the assignment.
And soon enough, I'll be uploading my own picture. Practice what you preach, right?
I'm fast at work on a few new developments: a slideshow, fresh images from a recent portrait shoot, and an exciting project I don't quite want to reveal just yet, but should be ready to launch in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, here's some other work of mine I thought I would share. It's a bit different from what I usually post, but this is a place to talk photography, and I think it's good to exercise the eye and try new things now and then. These abstract close-ups were shot on film. The subjects are pretty commonplace and unassuming: wood, plaster, chipping paint. Who cares, right? But, when framed just right, when reconsidered through the lens, their surfaces surrender some interesting compositions.

Two "J's".
Colorful trinkets that reflect the hearts of two equally colorful kids, Jean Claire and James.
A late afternoon stroll through the park set the stage for our session -- warm sunlight streaming through the trees -- as we stopped along the way at a playground, lingered amongst cool, vibrant architecture and enjoyed the serenity of the greens.
It's funny. Sometimes, kids need a bit of patient encouragement to have their picture taken. But at age five, Jean was more than eager to light up the afternoon with her smile and welcome the camera. In fact, I was told Jean Claire was very much looking forward to our shoot, and, after reviewing the pictures, I think her enthusiasm shows! Jean Claire knew just how to flash her pearly whites, mug for the lens, and just have fun.
Joining Jean Claire were her lovely mom, Jessie (make that THREE "J's"), and Jean Claire's new baby brother, James Caleb. Literally wrapped in swaddling clothing, James was the picture perfect baby, peeking out from behind his robes now and then to see what we were all up to. James didn't have any problem smiling, either. He just seem to have a knack for cheesing while I was occupied with Jean Claire. Ha! Eventually, I was able to sneak up on James and capture him in all his grinning glory. Babies -- you gotta be fast!
