Ka-POW!
There's nothing like a smart, swift karate chop from Mr. Kung Fu Panda himself to swat yours truly back into blogging mode. It's been a busy month of shooting, editing, and album making, friends, so let's charge the jumper cables and kick start October with the birthday celebration of brothers "L & G".
Check out little man "L". Oh, to be three again, and gawk in awe as your beloved martial arts idol spars with you in your back yard, artfully transformed by mom and dad into a dojo from the far East. Such awesome creativity and color at this party: paper lanterns, candles, custom cakes, banners, dragons, and even a piñata (crafted once more in the image of Mr. Panda, but thankfully, he left the party long before the kiddos starting bludgeoning his likeness with a baseball bat).
Brothers "L & G" shared the spotlight for the day, their birthdays only a month apart. So, while "L" was busy earning his black belt, I was capturing images of "G" outfitted in his vibrant attire for his traditional Korean Dol (1st Birthday).
A big thanks to everyone at the party, for welcoming this stranger into your home, to share in your festivities, food, and fun. Three hours into the session, a guest asked if I was "running out of things to shoot". With company like this, there's always moments to be found.

Alejandra and Julian submitted some wonderful suggestions for slideshow songs after our shoot. Shuffling their images around in time with this particular melody, I came to understand how it speaks to them and why it's their fave.
Loved the day, the laughs, the sunset.

Did you know the ferris wheel at Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach needs to be properly "balanced" while in operation? Sort of makes you think twice climbing aboard for a spin, eh? See, it seems Julian, Alejandra and I were the only ones game for a ride late that Sunday afternoon, and, rather than scoring a prime seat directly behind them, I was required to plant myself on the far opposite side of the wheel. Balance. (I know, two of them and one of me, but who's counting?). It was a mighty thrill composing shots through a 200mm lens while on spin cycle through the sky, in equilibrium with both a giant circle of steel, and two people I was jazzed to be spending the day with.
When Julian gave a thumbs up to shooting at the beach, and Alejandra had her sights on something a bit more urban and architectural, we opted for our own sense of balance and shot a little bit (actually, a lotta bit) of both! And I'm so glad we did because, when you're given the pleasure of enjoying the afternoon with the likes of Julian and Alejandra -- who are laughing it up and letting loose from the first snap of the shutter -- the hours zip by and the photography is a breeze.
Newport Beach and Balboa Pier made for great surf, while The Lab and The Camp in Costa Mesa served up the perfect turf. What a genuine treat it's going to be to share the day with you guys in October!
